Oil Spills

While the Oilers didn't win until the eighth week of the season, their first four loss were some of the most powerful teamsa in
Andrew Fritz
Chris Fox
Zack Smith
District 10....They fell behind Franklin, 20-0, at halftime and then 27-21, but almost pulled out the victory after a 15-yard TD by Corey Walters with 6:58 to play...Andrew Fritz recovered an onsides kick, and on the next play freshman Ben Koyack -- the fifth signal caller the Oilers had used on the season -- found Pat Schumacher deep on a streak pattern, but Franklin's Julian Wested deflected the pass to save what appeared to be a sure touchdown...

Nevetheless, the Oilers played better the second half of the season, and ended it with three straight victories...

The biggest was a 29-19 win over Warren in the home finale in which David Greenleaf booted a 35-yard field goal....Greenleaf, a senior transfer from Michigan, also scored a touchdown and passed to Logan Carson for another...

The Oilers' first victory of the season came against Central Tech. Koyack scored two TDs, one on a 65-yard run....

Greenleaf kicked a 38-yard field goal, the longest in modern day history, against East, and then a 12-yard TD pass to Jacob Faunce....The Oilers trailed until the fourth quarter when Bill Henderson scored on a 4-yard run....

The Oilers took a 7-0 lead against Meadville. Henderson rushed for 90 yards, and scored the TD on a 1-yard run...Henderson also had 18 tackles against the Bulldogs, followed by Fritz with 17 Eric Decker  with 14, Matt Schneider with 13 and Logan McMahon and Cody Johnson with 11 apiece...

The Oilers' first first-half TD of the season came against Slippery Rock on Koyack's 29-yard pass to Mike Wise....Wise also caught a 46-yard scoring pass from Greenleaf...Fritz had 15 tackles in that game...

Chris Fox, who would miss the last half of the season with an injury, scored on a 40-yard run against Franklin...He also rushed for 69 yards on nine carries against Harbor Creek...

Koyack, who started the season at tight end, caught a 12-yard TD pass from Schumacher against Harbor Creek...Schumacher and Nick Heasley, who also was lost for the season with an injury, opened the year at QB....
