Tiger LaVerde, Franklin's offensive coordinator for the past two years, will be head coach at Kirtland, Ohio, High School in 2006.
Kirtland is located east of Cleveland.The Fighting Hornets were 4-6 last year.
LaVerde has been with the Franklin program for the last five years, the first three as head coach, posting a 20-10 record.
Prior to that, LaVerde was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Oil City, and still teaches math and coaches track there.
LaVerde's 2003 Franklin team was 9-2 and shared the conference title with Strong Vincent. LaVerde and Vincent's Tom Cacchione were named co-coaches of the year that season.
The 2003 season also marked the first of three straight District 10 Class AAA playoff appearances for Franklin.
Since 2001, Franklin has racked up 16,020 yards total offense, including 8,150 passing.
Knights quarterbacks -- record-breaking Rich Cerro and Patrick Kahle along with Nick Wested, who are all under 6-feet tall -- passed for 8,150 yards during those five seasons. Franklin has topped the 1,000-yard mark in passing in each of those five seasons.
Cerro finished his three-year career (2001-03) as Franklin's all-time total offense leader with 5,398 yards.
Kahle, Cerro's successor, passed for a single-season record 2,133 yards in 2004.
Wested, a junior, passed for 1,693 yards in 2005, the No. 2 single-season total in FHS history.
Meanwhile, tight end Nate Byham set season records for receptions (45) and yards receiving (883) in 2004. His 86 catches for 1,544 yards and 17 TDs are all career records at Franklin.
The offense also produced two Class AAA first-team all-staters during that time: Byham this past season and tackle Garrett Brewster in 2003.
LaVerde, an Allegheny College graduate, quarterbacked the 1990 Oilers.
