Notes and Stats

The Oilers' first two games were on the road, the opener at Meadville....The Derrick reported, "The trip will be made by automobile and the machines will leave at 10 o'clock in the morning."...

George Chacona's 45-yard run accounted for the Oilers' only TD against Meadville...The only Oiler score against Warren came on a 70-yard dash by Fred Moore...Wrote The Derrick after the Warren game, "Chacona and Moore were kicked on the head in the final period and had to be carried from the field. This doubtless had a demoralizing effect on the remainder of the squad."...

Harold Peterson scored three touchdowns against Titusville...Bob Begley scored four TDs and kicked four extra points and Peterson added two touchdowns against Franklin...The Oilers also made two returns for touchdowns against Franklin, a 35-yard interception by Fred "Pete" Fox and a 45-yard fumble recovery by Chacona...

Begley rushed for 113 yards on 31 carries in the game. "(His) line plunges (were) oddly reminiscent of Jack Cleaves, with his lunging start before he hit the line," the paper said...

The game got off to an ominous start for the Oilers. "Peterson, local quarterback, sustained a dislocation of his collarbone, a cracked rib and injuries to ligaments in the side. The accident happened early in the game, but he continued to play," the paper reported...

Tom Detar's 65-yard interception gave the Oilers' their victory over Greenville...

Chacona, Begley and Peterson each finished the season with 5 touchdowns, and Begley and Chacona added 5 PATs apiece for 35 points...Fox threw both of the Oilers' touchdown passes...
