Notes and Stats

The Oiler backfield outweighed the Oiler line, 158.5-157.5...Paul Mitcham led the Oilers with 10 TDs, including three against Franklin in which he scored on runs of 62, 11 and 68 yards, all around right end on "perfect interference"...All but two of the Oilers' 296 yards came on the ground...

Mitcham also scored on runs of 42 and 62 yards against DuBois, and added a 64-yard TD run against Greenville...

Ed Klosinski added 5 TDs, including 3 against Youngsville...While all of his scoring runs were relatively short, the Oilers came up with some big plays to set up their four touchdowns...Mitcham's 36-yard run led to an 11-yard burst by Klosinski...Jim Emanuele returned an interception 22 yards and then ran 29 yards from scrimmage to set up Mitcham's 9-yard score...John Fyda's 38-yard pass to Ted Ossoff set up a 14-yard scoring run by Klosinski...Emanuele added a 53-yard punt return after all the scoring was completed...The Oilers totaled 408 yards...

But six straight losses would follow...A southpaw named Check (no first name listed) threw 5 TD passes for Warren, including three to Bonavita (again no first name given)...The Dragons completed 15 of 25 passes for 195 yards...The Derrick reported, "The winners' offense, one of the fastest moving ever seen, featured double and triple laterals, which dazzled the Oilers and thrilled the crowd (of 500 at Warren)"...In fact, there were 49 passes thrown in that game...

The Oilers' safety against Meadville came when Jack Hicks blocked a punt and the Bulldogs beat three Oilers in the end zone for the ball...In addition to his 64-yard scoring run, Mitcham had a 40-yard non-scoring run against Greenville...

Fumble recoveries by Harold Osterman and Joe Klosinski set up the two TDs against Titusville as the Oilers ended their losing streak...The TDs came on runs inside the 5 by Ed Klosinski and Mitcham...Mitcham had a 49-yard run for a touchdown called back due to a clip...The Oilers also were turned away at the 3 after an interception by Ed Klosinski...

The Oilers finished with 1,323 yards rushing and 1,511 yards total offense...They completed 20 of 63 passes and had 10 intercepted...Klosinski totaled 30 points on the season...Mitcham averaged 37 yards on nine punts, including a 53-yarder, against Grove City...
