Notes and Stats

Bobby Hall, younger brother of former St. Joseph's star Forrey (but not as fast, according to Derrick sports editor Jim Rich), helped the Oilers to their best season since 1938 by averaging 6.6 yards on 98 rushing attempts and scoring 7 TDs and 44 points...Hall transfered from St. Joe in order to play for Joe Connors, but had to sit out his junior season because of the transfer...

After scoring 2 TDs against Titusville, one on a 54-yard run and the other on a pass from Jim Snyder, Hall missed the next two games with a knee injury. Plus, stats from the Oilers' night game at Farrell were not available, so he rushed for 647 yards in six games...

Hall registered three 100-plus yard games, including a high of 182 in Game 2 against Franklin, and posted a 3-TD outing against Meadville in which he rushed for 164 yards in a driving rainstorm...

Meanwhile, Eddie Weaver, who also missed two games, added 350 yards on 78 carries and scored 2 TDs and 14 points...Weaver and Lee McDevitt, a transfer from Brookville,  also scored touchdowns in the opener with Titusville...McDevitt set up his 5-yard blast with a 36-yard interception return...Weaver added two drop kicks for extra points...

The Oilers scored a safety against Bradford when Ray Nicolas and Jim Henderson tackled an Owl in the end zone...That marked the first time the Oilers had ever scored against Bradford in a series that began in 1940...

The win over Meadville gave the Oilers their first mythical Crawford-Venango title since 1934...Bob Diehl scored the other TD, which was set up by Levi Fitterer's fumble recovery...Diehl added 73 yards on 16 carries in Game 2 against Franklin...Jim "Red" Swoger scored a touchdown in that game on a 5-yard interception return after Fitterer quick-kicked to the 1-foot line...

Hall scored the game's only TD and rushed for 135 yards in Game 1 over Franklin...

Diehl led the Oilers with three interceptions...
