The Oilers opened at Titusville on a Saturday afternoon...Bob Porter's booming kickoff got the Oilers off to a good start. Titusville fumbled the kick, recovered, but on its 11, and then PUNTED after its first play from scrimmage...The Oilers finished with 204 yards rushing with Bob Quinn and Jim McDaniels skirting the ends and (fullback) Jerry Boyles plowing through the middle of the line...Dick Erickson, Porter and Bob effrey were outstanding on the line, the paper reported...

But the Oilers  wouldn't win another game, although they tied Greenville on Boyles' 15-yard shovel pass to Doug Clinger...The Oilers held Greenville to 37 yards total offense through the first three quarters, but the Trojans put together a 95-yard drive to tie the game in the fourth...Earlier, the Oilers were stopped on the Greenville 5 and 2...

It was announced "over the public address system" before the game that Shirley Wilt was elected football queen of OCHS. She joined the team in the pre-game huddle and sat on the bench during the game...

About 3,000 fans turned out at Warren to honor J.D. Leidig, who was celebrating his 35th year as Dragons coach. His unbeaten 1917 team ran through some plays at halftime and then the fans presented Leidig with a check for $1,000...Warren's Dave Bevevino got off a 71-yard quick kick to the Oiler 12 during the game...

Bradford's Al Pingie scored 4 TDs on runs of 22, 32, 21 and 54 yards against the Oilers...Quinn scored on a 48-yard run for the Oilers in that game...Meadville clinched its second straight  Bi-County (Crawford/Venango) title with its win over the Oilers...The Bulldogs passed for 206 yards, Ralph Main connecting with Bill Jack on at least four of the five completions for 202 yards, including TDs of 73 and 78 yards...

The Oilers' only threat against Franklin came late in the game when they marched inside the 2 only to fumble...A blocked punt and two fumbles led to the 3 Franklin TDs...Franklin's Ted Marchibroda completed 10 of 22 passes for 118 yards...Freshman Billy Allison's 35-yard catch to the 5 set up the Oilers' only TD against Butler...

Boyles led the Oilers with 5 TDs and threw 3 TD passes, the others to Bob Fields for 27 yards against Meadville and to Quinn for 15 against Grove City...Quinn scored 3 TDs, and Clinger added 2...
