Notes and Stats

Bill Kaufman threw for 219 yards and touchdowns to Ron Tarr and Dean Henderson in the win over Greenville, which had handed Sharon its only loss of the season...The Oilers racked up 32 yards total offense and forced 6 Greenville fumbles...Bruce Barr boomed punts of 40,  45 and 55 yards...

The Oilers followed with their victory over Meadville in which Barr rushed for 212 yqrds and 3 TDs....Kaufman's 37-yard pass to Henderson with 1:22 left gave the Oilers their win over Hickory...Kaufman finished the season with 10 TD passes, 6 to Henderson and 3 to Tarr. Bill McFate caught the other scoring pass...Tarr caught 65-yard scoring passes against Titusville in both 1966 and 1967...

Henderson's blocked punt set up  a Kaufman to Tarr scoring pass that ignited the win over Corry...Denny O'Brien returned a fumble 50 yards for a TD against the Beavers, and Joe Venturella finished the scoring with an 85-yard interception return...

"Dangerous" Dan O'Neil, older brother of future pro and Penn State All-American LB "Steady" Eddie O'Neil, scored 4 TDs, one on an 80-yard punt return in Warren's victory...Not to be outdone, Franklin's Paul "Red" Law scored 5 TDs against the Oilers...

The All-Section 2 strangely included only two Oilers -- Tarr and Venturella, both first-teamers...According to The Derrick, the voting was done by the coaches and compiled by the Meadville Tribune...Also on the first team was Franklin C Ray Beers, a current member of the Oilers coaching staff...
