Oil Slicks

This was the last season the Oilers played at the Mitchell Avenue Field. They beat Erie Tech, 46-7, in their final game there. Frank Hajduk scored 3 TDs and Bob Stahlman Sr. passed for 2 (to Tom Mix and Jim Horner) and scored another. Randy Beighley ran 32 yards  with a blocked punt for a TD...

Stahlman threw for 5 touchdowns and scored 4 others on the season...Frank Hajduk led the Oilers with 5 TDs...

Future NFL cornerback Bay Lawrence, then a 160-pound QB, completed 6 of 10 passes for 190 yards and 2 TDs and scored another on a 66-yard punt return in Franklin's victory over the Oilers...

The Oilers were inside the 20 five times in the 20-6 loss to Meadville, but could come up with only one TD, a 2-yard run by Joe Olmes...

The Oil City Junior High finished with a 6-1 record after dropping its finale, 6-0, against Corry. George Sterner had 10 interceptions and Ted Kaufman played QB for the team...

What might have been? ...Former Oiler Doug Williams, who scored on an 83-yard run in the 1967 finale against Erie Tech, was a 150-pound junior RB at West Nottingham Academy in Elkton, Md., and scored 10 TDs in his first two games. He rushed for 295 yards on 15 carries and scored on plays covering 85, 77, 5, 33 and 44 yards against Friends School of Baltimore...
