Oil Spills

The Oilers tied Greenville on Don Clark's 60-yard interception return and Leon Kulinski's pass to George Sterner for the PAT. Kike Barscz then recovered a fumble to preserve the tie...Kulinski's pass to Doug Dale with 43 seconds left cut Hickory's lead to 13-12, but the pass for the conversion was blocked...The Oilers lost to eventual Section 2 champion Corry on Darryl Emmons' 30-yard fumble return...Randy Loudon came off the bench to rush for 119 yards on 18 carries against Warren. Mike McNerney averaged 13.6 yards on 5 carries in that game...

Franklin defensive tackle Bob Wagner had not one, but two, touchdowns called back in the 0-0 tie with the Oilers. His fumble recovery in the end zone for an apparent TD was nullfied by an offsides call. Then he returned another fumble 30 yards for an apparent touchdown, but the referees ruled the play was blown dead before the fumble...

Ted Kaufman led the Oilers with 487 yards rushing, and Clark added 432...Kulinski completed 45 of 105 passes for 538 yards and 4 TDs...Clark caught 15 passes for 173 yards, and led the Oilers in TDs with 6...

Ed Naegli made 58 key tackles and shared the team lead in sacks with Mike Hamilton at 5 apiece...Naegli and Tom Walentosky each had 85-point defensive games...Naegli also forced 2 fumbles, and Larry Deets recovered 3...Clark intercepted 3 passes...Miles "Butch" Truitt booted the ball into the end zone twice on kickoffs...
